A Note From the Artist |

I began Artistic Memories by Alice doing portraits of children and homes. But after the death of our infant daughter, Grace, in 1996, God has given me a twofold desire - a mission:
To use my art to bring comfort to parents who have experienced the loss of a child.
To encourage and challenge and inspire women (especially mothers) to become women that love God with all their heart.
My husband David and I have four boys and then God gave us our daughter, Grace, but she lived only nine hours. That was a difficult journey, but God has been our Rock through the valley of the shadow of death. About two years after her death, my husband started praying that if God wanted us to adopt a little girl he was open to it but would not openly pursue it. I felt my plate was full with 4 boys, but if God was going to give us one girl with 4 boys, she needed a partner! So I prayed that if God were going to give us a girl, that He would give us two! God answered both of our prayers in a very dramatic way! Three years after Grace's entrance into heaven, we received a call on a June morning that two little girls -- half sisters -- needed a home immediately. We went over and met them. We met with the adoption agency that afternoon. The mother signed off all of her rights that evening and by 8:30 that night they were in our home to stay! A week later we had legal guardianship. We didn't even have the home study until six months later. The adoption was completed on Aug. 3, 2000.
We say this whole thing is a 'God thing'. To top it all off, Makennah is a 1/2 year older than Grace would have been. Sarah is 1/2 year younger than Grace. Sarah's given name at birth was Sarah Grace. Isn't that just God?! Praise Him!
Now God has given me two little, but quickly growing girl models for graphite pencil work as well as the four boys. God is good! |
